Land Acquisition Act, 1894

Author: EasyAdvocacy
Category : Legal Shots

Britishers entered our country with the intention of draining of its wealth and natural resources out of the country to fuel industrialization. One such act was Land Acquisition Act, 1894. This act made rich more rich and poor even poorer.nbsp;

The British Government passed Land Acquisition Act in 1894 that enabled the government to snatch away any piece of land if it favored governments policy by claiming it will be used for Public Purpose. The provisions in this law gave power to an Officer to take away any piece of land for public purpose.nbsp;

Britishers used the land to grow commercial crops like indigo and built cantonments, hotels, cow-slaughter houses, etc only to be used by for their own luxury. Generally, the farmers suffered the most because of this law as they were rendered helpless and uprooted from their own land. Thousands of people of lost their livelihood and died because of poverty.nbsp;

Farmers continued to suffer in poverty due to this act only to be repealed in 2013. What is the point of attaining independence when our laws are still bound in the British Raj. The farmers suffered for 119 years before a proper provision was made for their settlement and rehabilitation.
